Lesson Four – The Future and Counterfeit Angels
DOWNLOAD CLASS NOTES BELOW
This is the fourth lesson in our series on angels, Messengers and Ministers. This lesson focuses on the future of angelsand the reality of counterfeit angels.
As an introduction, let me say that this has been a very intriguing and informative series. I trust it has been helpful to you over the past several weeks. We have already discussed the reality of angels, their ministry in protection, delivering messages, and assisting in our personal walk with God. Last week, we studied the worship and warfare of angels—how millions of them praise God and also engage in spiritual conflict on our behalf.
Today we turn our attention to the future concerning angels and the danger of counterfeit angels around us.
Scripture: Isaiah 14:12–15; Ezekiel 28:14–17
We begin by looking at the fall of Lucifer. Once a mighty and prominent angel—possibly the most powerful in heaven—he fell through pride and rebellion. In his fall, he became Satan, and with him came deception.
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 11:14 reminds us that Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Everything that looks good, feels right, or seems religious is not necessarily of God. Satan specializes in disguising his works and offering half-truths.
Think about television commercials for alcohol or casinos. They show the pleasure, excitement, and glamour, but never the sorrow, loss, or broken lives. Sin is always presented that way. The Bible tells us, “there is pleasure in sin for a season”—but only for a season.
As believers, we must guard against deception.
Scripture: Ephesians 6:11–12
We are commanded to put on the whole armor of God. The Spirit of God gives us discernment, and the Word of God gives us wisdom and understanding. Fallen angels and demonic forces are real and deceptive, but we are not left defenseless. Daily, we must walk in the Spirit and stand in God’s truth.
Angels will play a vital role in the great events of the end times.
The Gathering of the Nations
Scripture: Matthew 24:31; Matthew 25:31–32
At the return of Christ, the angels will be sent forth to gather His people together. They will also be witnesses as the nations are brought before Christ for judgment. Their role underscores the seriousness of that day and the authority of Christ over all the earth.
Casting Down Satan
Scripture: Revelation 20:1–3
Here we see an angel restraining Satan, binding him, and preparing for God’s ultimate plan of judgment. Even the devil’s power is limited by the authority of Almighty God. Angels are God’s executive team, carrying out His perfect plan for time and eternity.
Scripture: Hebrews 12:22–23
The writer of Hebrews tells us that we will one day join the angels and the saints of all ages in the heavenly celebration. Together, the redeemed of the Lord and the hosts of heaven will lift up unending praise to Christ.
Scripture: Revelation 5:11–12
In John’s vision, countless angels surround the throne, worshiping and declaring the worthiness of the Lamb. Everything they do points to the glory of God. Their love is for Him, their allegiance is to Him, and their mission is His glory.
What a reminder that the God we serve is awesome and powerful. All of His power is available to us in this life and will be revealed in fullness for all eternity.
This fourth lesson reminds us of two truths: the danger of deception and the certainty of God’s plan. Counterfeit angels are real, and Satan still works to blind and mislead. But God’s angels are also real—servants of His will, agents of His judgment, and voices of His worship.
As we look to the future, may we stand firm in the Word, walk daily in the Spirit, and rest in the assurance that God’s purposes will prevail. One day, we will join with the angels in giving eternal glory to the Lamb who was slain.
