Text: Matthew 7:24–27
On June 24, 2021, a condominium building in Surfside, Florida, tragically collapsed. From the outside, the structure appeared sound and stable, but investigations revealed that the foundation had been compromised. Years of water damage had caused corrosion beneath the surface—something that wasn’t immediately visible to the eye. The hidden decay ultimately led to disaster.
Jesus warns us of a similar truth in the parable of the wise and foolish builders. Outward appearances may look fine, but if the foundation is faulty, collapse is inevitable when the storm comes.
1. The Personal Choice to Build
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them...” (v. 24)
Everyone is building something. The question is: on what are you building your life?
2. The Powerful Contrast of Foundations
One man builds on rock (obedience), the other on sand (disobedience).
The difference isn’t in the houses—but in what lies beneath.
3. The Promised Coming of a Storm
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house...” (vv. 25, 27)
Storms come to both the wise and the foolish.
Matthew 5:45 reminds us: “He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
If a small thing causes you to nearly collapse, you are not ready for a big storm. Storms will come—it’s not a matter of if, but when. The difference will always come down to the foundation. Jesus isn’t just calling us to hear His words—He’s calling us to build our lives on them.
